Competitiveness Initiative Title graphic

In 2005, the National Academies’ influential report: Rising Above the Gathering Storm, called for an urgent and wide-ranging effort to strengthen scientific competitiveness. In order to maintain a U.S. competitive advantage and invigorate the U.S. economy, the report noted, four critical elements require strategic investments: education, research and technology development, competitive capacity and incentives. The UT System Board of Regents provided vital resources in each of these four areas, resulting is a transformation of UT System institutions that positions them to recruit the world’s finest faculty to educate our children, and prepare those students to be future scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and healthcare providers.

UT Regents Recognize Faculty Members in a Class of Their Own

Medal

On August 19, 2009, The University of Texas System Board of Regents announced the 73 recipients of the inaugural Regents’ Outstanding Teaching Awards for the nine UT academic institutions. While this year’s honorees are diverse in terms of fields of study, they all share a common goal: to positively impact the lives of undergraduate students through teaching excellence and innovative instruction. Offered in recognition of tenured, tenure-track and contingent faculty members who serve our undergraduates in an exemplary manner, the awards also represent the UT System’s commitment to continuous improvement in the quality of the education its faculty provides to its students.
