Dr. George Hurst named director emeritus

HOUSTON - Dr. George A. Hurst, who served as director and chief administrative officer of The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler for 27 years, was named director emeritus of the center by the Board of Regents on Thursday (November 12).

Hurst retired from the directorship in January 1998 and plans to fully retire from the institution in January 1999.

"As we confer this honorary title on Dr. Hurst, the Board of Regents is reminded of the truly distinguished service that he has rendered to the Health Center," said Donald L. Evans, chairman of the board.

"His deeply caring and dedicated leadership positioned the Health Center as one of the outstanding institutions of its type in the nation. We will always remain grateful for his achievements."
