Statement by William H. Cunningham, Chancellor

Chancellor Cunningham Pays Tribute to Former Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock

AUSTIN – William H. Cunningham, chancellor of The University of Texas System, issued the following statement on Friday, June 18:

"It was with great sadness that I learned today of the death of Bob Bullock. Texas has lost one of its grandest leaders, and I have lost a dear friend and trusted adviser. Like the great Texas heroes of the 19th century, Bob Bullock was a man of legendary courage and grit. And like them, he was a visionary leader and statesman, not content with the world as he found it and not concerned only with the immediate challenges of the day. He always focused on the significance of what we do today for the future generations of Texans.

"Throughout a long and distinguished career of selfless public service, Bob Bullock never wavered from this commitment to what is best for Texas. His commitment to Texas was amply evident in his support for higher education. He had a keen appreciation for the important role of higher education in securing a more prosperous and more fulfilling future for all Texans. His numerous contributions toward the development of a first-rate system of colleges and universities were unequaled."
