UTA President Search Advisory Committee Completes Work

AUSTIN - The 18-member Presidential Search Advisory Committee to advise the University of Texas System Board of Regents on the selection of a president for U.T. Arlington met for the last time today (Monday, Sept. 22). After reviewing 108 nominations and applications for the position the committee narrowed its list to five candidates that it will recommend to the Board of Regents for their consideration.

The committee, chaired by Dr. Teresa Sullivan, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs for the U.T. System, was charged with the responsibility to recommend the names of five to 10 candidates, unranked, to the board. Members of the committee included representatives from the faculty, staff, student body, alumni and the Arlington community.

"I am very pleased with the work and diligence that the search advisory committee put in to this effort," Dr. Sullivan said. "We reviewed a substantial number of applications and nominations for the presidency of U. T. Arlington and interviewed numerous prospective candidates in the past six months. The names we will forward to the regents are all strong leaders with solid backgrounds and experience that can serve to lead this institution and continue on its remarkable trajectory upward in the U. T. System. It will now be up to the Board of Regents to review of list and determine what finalist or finalists to name for the next phase in the search for a new, permanent president for UTA."

The Board of Regents will review a list of candidates and name a finalist or finalists for campus visits and interviews prior to a vote of the full Board to select a new president to replace Charles Sorber, interim president of U. T. Arlington. Under state law, only the names of finalists selected by Boards of Regents are publicly announced.

Sorber has served as interim president since Robert Witt assumed the presidency of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa on March 1.
