For the sixth time in eight years, The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston has been tapped the No. 1 hospital for cancer care in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual “America’s Best Hospitals” edition.
Besides the top ranking, UT M. D. Anderson was recognized for specialty care in five other areas: ear, nose and throat (2); urology (9); gynecology (12); digestive orders (23); and diabetes & endocrine disorders (41). UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas was ranked nationally in four areas: urology (15); neurology and neurosurgery (20); kidney disorders (23); and gynecology (33).
Additionally, two Houston medical centers affiliated with UT System institutions were recognized for their specialty care. Among them was the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, which was ranked the No. 5 center for heart and heart surgery; and The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research at Memorial Hermann Hospital, which ranked fourth in rehabilitation.
The “Best Hospitals” guide recognized 174 out of some 4,800 medical centers across the country that excelled in one or more of 16 specialties.
