TRACK Attracts Thousands of Visits

11th graders take overwhelming advantage of TAKS prep Website

April 22, 2005 - Eleventh graders working to pass the four-part Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test, relied heavily on the University of Texas System's free, online help for taking the test.

During the week prior to the high school juniors' math, science and social studies exams, the website saw a record number of hits. Between April 10 to April 16, there were more than three million hits to the TRACK (TAKS Readiness, and Core Knowledge) web program. Students took their final round of tests April 20-22, 2005.

Between March 27 and April 16, the average visits per day steadily increased from 1,878 to 3,961.

TRACK offers diagnostic tests and hundreds of learning tutorials that give students immediate feedback and point to specific learning materials where students need the most support. Students using TRACK may complete a test in one sitting or save the results and return later to complete it. Tutorials are indexed by TAKS objectives and by student learning expectations for easy reference by both teachers and students.

All of TRACK's learning materials have been reviewed for accuracy and relevance by subject-matter experts from Texas high schools and universities. TRACK was designed and delivered by the UT TeleCampus and the Office of Academic Affairs at the UT System in February of 2004. Generous grant funding was provided by the Houston Endowment and The Meadows Foundation.
