The University of Texas System is composed of nine academic and six health institutions and
stretches across most of the state of Texas.
UT health institutions provide world-class health care for all Texans, including the uninsured,
disadvantaged and elderly. These six institutions lead the state in health education and in
educating and training our medical workforce for future generations. Beyond these vital
areas of patient care and education, the health campuses are among the leading research
institutions in the nation.
The UT System is profoundly involved in the education and well-being of Texas children
from their earliest years. To enhance the lives of young Texans and ensure a better future
for ourstate, UT institutions conduct groundbreaking educational research, help high school
students prepare for standardized tests and train a new generation of teachers. Once these
students complete their secondary education, the UT System ensures that its institutions
are affordable and accessible to students from all backgrounds and economic circumstances.
As public institutions, UT campuses are accountable to students, parents, the general public
and the state.
In an increasingly competitive global marketplace, UT institutions stimulate Texas’ economy
with a well-educated workforce that is prepared to meet the demands of the 21st century.
The UT System attracts businesses and industries to our state, and provides new research
dollars and resources. The System further spurs economic growth as one of the state’s
largest employers and through the spending of its students.
