Systemwide Programs

The UT System Leadership Institute offers three Systemwide programs to promote leadership and communicate the role of the UT System in supporting each institution.

System Overview for New Leaders

This program for new department chairs and deans is held twice each year and pairs a leadership skills assessment with presentations and panel discussions from Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board representatives, the UT System Board of Regents and Chancellor, UT System Executive Vice Chancellors, and various departments within the UT System. Program Fellows gain insight into the value and benefits of being part of the UT System as well as cross-institutional and System leadership networking opportunities. The System Overview program is held in Austin.

A Day in the Life of a Department Chair

This program is designed for faculty who are interested in learning more about the roles and responsibilities of the department chair. Program Fellows have opportunities to network and share experiences cross-institutionally and learn about their own leadership strengths and challenges while focusing on the mechanics of a department chair role. This program is offered in Austin and regionally at various campuses in the Fall and Spring.

A Day in the Life of a Dean

This program is designed for faculty who are considering a leadership role in administration. Program Fellows have opportunities to network and share experiences cross-institutionally and learn about their own leadership strengths and challenges while focusing on the mechanics of the role of the dean. This program is offered in Austin and regionally at various campuses in the fall and spring.

In addition to these programs, the Leadership Institute offers leadership presentations from Thought Leaders and various program topics delivered through webinar and Second Life technology throughout the year.
