The mission of The University of Texas Academy of Health Science Education is to foster excellence in education in the health sciences by recognition of outstanding educators and advancement of knowledge and innovation in the field of education.

Academy logo The six pillars of The University of Texas Academy of Health Science Education represent the ideals of the members.
Professus = Professionalism and profession, from the Latin professus, meaning to have affirmed publicly.
Philosophia = Love of knowledge, from the Greek philosophia meaning love (philo) and the pursuit of knowledge. (sophia).
Diversitas = Diversity, presence of a wide range of variation in the qualities or attributes, from the Latin diversitas
Scientia = Science, from the Latin scientia meaning knowledge.
Hygienia = Health, hygiene is the science that deals with the principles and practices of good health, from the Greek Hygienia, goddess of health.
Humanus = Humanitarianism, devotion to the promotion of human welfare and the advancement of social reforms, from the Latin humanus meaning pertaining to man.
