Miguel's story
As a senior in high school, aspiring doctor Miguel Cervantes wasn’t sure how he was going to afford college.
“My parents told me that they didn’t have the funds to help me financially,” recalled Cervantes, 21.
Faced with the challenge of finding another way to achieve his dreams, Miguel applied for financial aid when he enrolled at UTEP.
The package he received included federal and state grants; enough to cover his higher education expenses and allow him plenty of time to study.
Now a senior chemistry major, Miguel added an internship with the Student Development Center to his rèsumè and is using the extra income to pay for medical school preparations courses.
“Financial aid has been great,” he said.
