The University of Texas System and its 15 institutions have an important
tradition of excellence in higher education. With more than 170,000 students
statewide, the UT System has a significant economic and social impact on
the state of Texas. Our institutions account for 34 percent of all bachelor's
degrees awarded by public universities in Texas, 38 percent of all graduate
degrees, and 53 percent of all professional degrees. Nearly three-quarters of
all students in health-related public institutions are at UT System health
institutions. Since its inception in the 1880s, UT has been the state's leader
in teaching, research, patient care, and service.
Support from the private sector is essential to our success, now and in the
future. Contributions from generous individuals, foundations, corporations,
alumni, and others provide a significant portion of our overall support.
