Working With a Financial Professional
National Save for Retirement Week runs from October 21-27th, 2012, and is a perfect time for you to take a good look at where you are and where you want to be. And the great news is you don’t have to do it alone!
In a recent study, more than 71% of those surveyed said they prefer one-on-one meetings with financial professionals over other ways to get financial information. Even with advances in online and mobile technologies making communication faster and easier than ever, many people continue to rate face-to-face meetings as the most valuable way to receive guidance and stay on track with their retirement savings plan.
The University of Texas System Retirement Program can help you access the kind of face-to-face meetings with financial professionals that most people prefer. Each of the Retirement Program’s five authorized providers (Fidelity Investments, ING, Lincoln Financial Group, TIAA-CREF and VALIC) have professional financial representatives available for you to meet with at any time, at absolutely no cost to you.
Some tips for building a working relationship with an authorized UT provider representative include:
- Be clear about your goals and values;
- Carefully consider their advice;
- Rely on their guidance, but don’t be afraid to ask for more information; and,
- Keep them informed of any new developments that might affect your investment plan.
Schedule a meeting with an authorized provider representative at least once a year to review your retirement savings plan. One easy way to remember to schedule your annual financial review is to plan it around a date or occasion that you can easily remember, like your birthday, an annual pay raise, or National Save for Retirement Week.
It is never too late to start saving for your retirement and no amount is too small. Make sure to take advantage of these free services today!
