UT SELECT Medical and the Affordable Care Act (ACA)

Recently the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has been a widespread topic of discussion among employees and retirees throughout the country, including at our UT institutions. For UT employees and retirees, one of the primary questions has centered around what impact the ACA will have on the UT SELECT Medical plan. While the ACA has enhanced some provisions of the plan, currently there are no major changes anticipated to eligibility or coverage.

UT System recognizes the importance of having a robust health plan available to its employees, retirees and dependents. Your UT SELECT Medical plan benefits remain comprehensive and competitive. And the plan continues to be a valuable component of the UT employee and retiree benefits package.

It is important to know that the UT SELECT Medical plan continues to be offered to all benefits-eligible employees, retirees and their dependents. The plan is in full compliance with all applicable Federal guidelines mandated by the ACA. Because of this, covered members have seen improved benefits in recent years which include expanded eligibility (dependents up to age 26) for medical coverage, and $0 out-of-pocket cost for preventive care and women’s health services.

The Office of Employee Benefits (OEB) will continue to closely monitor both state and federal legislation as well as the financial health of our plans on an ongoing basis. In addition, OEB consistently works to maximize the benefits and services that employees and retirees receive for every dollar spent on benefits and to keep you fully informed of any expected changes to your UT Benefits.
