Stay Up to Date on the 83rd Legislative Session
As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, the 83rd Session of the Texas Legislature began in January and the main filing deadline is fast approaching on March 8, 2013. As of March 5, just over 3,400 bills have been filed and are moving through the legislative process along with over 1,200 resolutions.
At this early stage, very little is known about which bills may eventually become law and which will not. As the Legislative session continues and it becomes clearer which measures are likely to be implemented, OEB will be able to provide more detailed information about any anticipated changes to the UT Benefits program.
During these next few months, it is especially important for employees and retirees to keep contact information up to date, especially email addresses. If you know of other employees or retirees who are not receiving this newsletter electronically, please encourage them to contact the HR or Benefits office at their institution to update their email address.
Again, for those who are interested in following the 83rd Legislative Session more closely online, you can find information at www.capitol.state.tx.us/Home.aspx. Available tools include a variety of search options to help locate specific bills by a variety of criteria, including general topic or an affected state agency.
