Know Your Benefits

September Signals the Start of a New Plan Year

The first of September is a very important date for UT System employees and retirees when it comes to your UT Benefits. Any new insurance coverage you elected during the recent Annual Enrollment (AE) period becomes effective on September 1, so you can begin to use your new benefits on this date. Also, if you added a dependent to your coverage during AE, their coverage is active as of that date as well.

What about Your Existing Benefits?

With the start of the new plan year, all annual deductibles (medical, prescription), annual out-of-pocket maximums for individuals and families (medical), and insurance coverage with annual maximum benefits (dental, vision) reset. In addition, if you are a UT FLEX Health Care Reimbursement Account (HCRA) participant, your entire annual election is available for utilization on September 1, 2013.

Using Online Resources Can Help You Maximize Your Benefits

Whether you've just enrolled in a new insurance plan which you can now utilize or if your current coverage simply rolled-forward from last plan year, stay on top of all the details by using the online resources for the UT insurance, retirement and wellness vendors. Learn about your benefits by viewing short educational videos on OEB's Educate Me page, create online accounts through the vendor websites which enable you to view your insurance explanation of benefits (EOB), price medications, download claim forms and even upload your UT FLEX claims. You can find out more about all of the tools available to you by visiting the complete list of UT Benefits Online Resources.
