Stay up-to-date on the 82nd Legislative Session
As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, the 82nd Session of the Texas Legislature began in January and is now well under way. Over 5,000 bills have been filed and are moving through the legislative process.
At this early stage, very little is known about which bills may progress and eventually become law and which will not. Because of this, it is still too early to predict exactly how the UT Benefits program may be affected. As the Legislative session progresses and it becomes clearer which measures are likely to be implemented, OEB will be able to provide more detailed information and will keep you updated on a regular basis with important information about what you can expect.
During these next few months, it is especially important for employees and retirees to keep contact information (particularly email addresses) up to date. If you know of other employees or retirees who are not receiving this newsletter electronically, please encourage them to contact the HR or Benefits office at their institution to update their email address.
Again, for those who are interested in following the 82nd Legislative Session more closely online, you can find information at http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/Home.aspx. Available tools include a variety of search options to help locate specific bills by a variety of criteria, including general topic or an affected state agency.
