Health Care Reform and Benefits
The health care reform bill passed by Congress March 23, 2010, also known as The Affordable Care Act (ACA), is designed to take effect in stages. Some requirements will not take effect until 2018, while other provisions are already in place. Below are several key changes affecting the UT SELECT Medical plan beginning September 1, 2011.
Expanded Young Adult Coverage – Young adult dependent children may join or remain on their parent’s UT SELECT Medical plan through the end of the month in which they turn age 26. Eligibility for all other types of coverage (Dental, Vision, Life and AD&D,etc.) ends at age 25 or upon loss of eligibility as defined by state law.
NOTICE! Special Enrollment Opportunity – The Expanded Young Adult Coverage provides a special enrollment opportunity for dependent children whose coverage ended, or who were not eligible for coverage because they turned 25, got married, or enlisted in the military. These individuals are eligible to enroll in UT SELECT Medical from the first day of Annual Enrollment (July 15, 2011) through September 30. Coverage for these special enrollees will be effective September 1, 2011. Important! If you wish to add dependents to the plan, supporting documentation of the parent/child relationship is required.
$0 Preventive Care and Services – ACA provisions add to the list of preventive care and services already offered through UT SELECT Medical at no out-of-pocket cost to the member when received in-network. Eligible services are outlined in the Federal Regulations based on U.S. Preventive Service Task Force Recommendations and include:
- Routine physical exam
- Well-woman exam
- Osteoporosis screening
- Prostate (PSA) screening
Please be aware that you may incur some cost if the preventive service is not the primary purpose of the visit or if your doctor bills for services that are not preventive. Eligible services are outlined in the Federal Regulations based on U.S. Preventive Service Task Force Recommendations. You may find more information about the covered preventive services here.
No EOI for UT SELECT Medical – For UT SELECT Medical coverage effective September 1, 2011 or later (including coverage added during Annual Enrollment), no Evidence of Insurability (EOI) will be required. All other eligibility and enrollment policies still apply.
