After a nine-month
search, Mark G. Yudof, President of the University of Minnesota,
was named as the sole finalist for the position of Chancellor
of The University of Texas System. On June 21, 2002, the
U. T. Board of Regents voted unanimously to elect Mark G. Yudof
as the ninth Chancellor of The University of Texas System.

(L/R: U. T.
Austin President Larry Faulkner, Chancellor-Designate Mark G.
Yudof, U. T. Board of Regents' Chairman Charles Miller, June 21,
2002)
Background
The University of Texas
System initiated a search for an individual to succeed Mr. R.
D. Burck who announced his intent to step down as Chancellor by
September 1, 2003. The goal of the Board of Regents of The
University of Texas System was to conduct an open, inclusive,
and thorough search process, consistent with the traditions of
excellence in the U. T. System and the prominent role of the System
in American higher education.
The public was invited
to send comments and suggestions.
