Background

The University of Texas System initiated a search for an individual to succeed Mr. R. D. Burck who announced his intent to step down as Chancellor by September 1, 2003.  The goal of the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System was to conduct an open, inclusive, and thorough search process, consistent with the traditions of excellence in the U. T. System and the prominent role of the System in American higher education.

The public was invited to send comments and suggestions.
