Background:
In
order to comply with Section 11 of Article III of the General Appropriations
Act adopted by the 70th Legislature, the Board, upon recommendation of the
Academic Affairs Committee, adopted the following policy statement relating
to athletic departments at academic components of The University of Texas
System:
Policy statement
The president of each general academic component of the U. T. System which engages in intercollegiate athletic activities shall ensure that the institutional Handbook of Operating Procedures includes the following:
a. Provisions
that ensure that no general revenue funds are used for intercollegiate
activities purposes; and
b. A
prohibition against athletic department personnel violating any rule or
regulation of an organization having regulatory authority over the
intercollegiate athletic activities of the institution relating to recruitment
of student athletes.
This specific requirement that the institutional Handbooks contain such provisions will comply with the legislative mandate.
