Requirement of professional liability insurance for pharmacy students in fifth-year clinical and/or pharmacy internship courses

Background:

 

Approval was given without objection to require professional liability insurance for pharmacy students in fifth-year clinical and/or pharmacy internship courses at The University of Texas at Austin.  It was pointed out that at all U. T. System health components the requirement of professional liability insurance for allied health and nursing students was approved on October 20, 1972 and for students involved in patient care activities on December 7, 1979.  The following statement was ordered to be included in the 1980-82 College of Pharmacy catalog:

 

NOTE:  The following policy is provided as historical background.  Professional liability insurance is currently handled as an incidental fee under Section 54.504, Texas Education Code.

 

 

Policy on Professional Liability Insurance
for Pharmacy Students

 

 

All pharmacy students enrolling in fifth-year clinical and/or pharmacy internship courses will be required to show evidence of professional liability insurance coverage paid for the duration of the course or courses as a prerequisite to enrollment.  The effective date of the policy must be on or before the first regular class period of the clinical and/or pharmacy internship course for which the student is enrolling.
