Brackenridge Tract

In 1910, Regent George W. Brackenridge donated 503 acres along the Colorado River "for the benefit of The University of Texas." Since then, The University of Texas System Board of Regents has upheld a fiduciary responsibility for stewardship of the land, now commonly referred to as the Brackenridge Tract. In keeping with this long-held responsibility, Regents reviewed the Brackenridge Tract Task Force Report submitted on October 12, 2007, available online at http://www.utsystem.edu/bor/bracktract/report.pdf.

On November 9, 2007 Regents heard from members of the public regarding the Brackenridge Tract Task Force Report. The public comment session was webcast live and that webcast is archived online at http://www.utsystem.edu/bor/meetings/webcasts.htm. Correspondence regarding the Report has also been shared with Regents for their consideration.

During the December 6, 2007 Board meeting, The University of Texas System Board of Regents

approved a motion to appoint a selection advisory committee consisting of Executive Vice Chancellor Scott Kelley, Executive Director of Real Estate Florence Mayne, U. T. Austin Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Kevin Hegarty, and U. T. Austin Vice President for Employee and Campus Services Pat Clubb to review the qualifications and recommend the best qualified firms to be interviewed by the U. T. System Board.

During that meeting, the Board also authorized the initiation of a process to retain a master planner to develop conceptual master plans for the redevelopment of land in West Austin known as the Brackenridge Tract. A Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was subsequently issued.

The Selection Advisory Committee reviewed the RFQ responses and identified firms to be interviewed by the U. T. System Board of Regents at a Special Called Meeting on March 26, 2008.

At the March 26 meeting, the Board selected Cooper, Robertson & Partners, LLP, a New York-based firm. Cooper, Robertson & Partners, LLP, is charged with producing a minimum of two conceptual master plans for the redevelopment of the Brackenridge Tract. The master planning team will begin work no later than May 2008, with a goal of presenting comprehensive planning documents to the Board of Regents between March and June 2009.
