Laurel Harvey was appointed General Manager for Administration at Princeton University in September 2002 and promoted to Chief Compliance Officer in November 2004. As General Manager for Administration and Compliance, Laurel is responsible for overall leadership and management of administrative operations in academic departments and is responsible for the institution’s compliance program. She has direct oversight for environmental health and safety. As General Manager for Administration, she created the University’s first off-campus shuttle bus program linking graduate student and faculty housing and apartment complexes and had oversight over the creation of the Tiger Card office which consolidated parking access, building access and student, faculty and staff identification cards.

Laurel served as Associate Treasurer and Director of the Office of Risk Management from 1995 through 2002, responsible for all risk management and insurance functions, for the financial management of the University’s employee health and disability plans and the student health plan and oversight of environmental health and safety. During her tenure, the University developed, vetted, and approved risk-based building safety, security and accessibility criteria. Construction is complete on $19 million of upgrades out of a current budget of $47 million. The position was responsible for streamlining the administration and contracting of employee benefits resulting in annual savings of $1 million without impacting the quality of services or benefits. She served as Finance Chair and President of Genesis Limited, a higher education liability insurance captive.

She began work at Princeton in the Office of the Treasurer as the manager of Planned Giving. She later become Associate Director of Investments and then held several positions in the Office of the Vice President for Finance and Administration before returning to the Treasurer’s Office in 1995.

Laurel received her B.A. from Middlebury College and her M.B.A from The Simon School of the University of Rochester. She serves as University Trustee to Mpala, a scientific research centre in Kenya co-managed by Princeton University, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Museum of Kenya, the Kenya Wildlife Service, and the Mpala Wildlife Foundation.
