Tom Schumacher is the University of Minnesota's first Director of Institutional Compliance. He has independent oversight over all operational compliance units, is responsible for coordinating programs to improve the University's compliance culture and creating compliance strategies for the University as a whole. He also oversees the University’s policy office. Tom has been actively involved in facilitating compliance best practices among universities through a formal network of university compliance officers. He also maintains a national compliance list serve for university compliance officers.

Prior to accepting the role as Institutional Compliance Director, Tom served as a litigation attorney in the University's General Counsel's Office. He worked at the firm of Dorsey & Whitney LLP as a commercial litigation attorney prior to coming to the University. Tom also served as a law clerk to United States District Court Judge Richard H. Kyle.

He graduated from the University of St. Thomas Summa Cum Laude and from the University of Minnesota Law School Magna Cum Laude and with Order of the Coif honors.
