Texans voted in 1881 to locate the state’s first public university in Austin and its first public medical school in Galveston. Named to commemorate this historic act, the 1881 Society welcomes donors who contribute to the UT System’s strategic fund.
More than a century later, Texas’ 23 million residents live in a state that is increasingly urban, prosperous and diversified. In this same time, the UT System has expanded into nine academic and six health institutions that span the entire state.
Members of the 1881 Society are invited to special events held around the state and they receive regular communications from the Chancellor and members of the UT System leadership team. They also benefit from joining a group of people like themselves who are committed to higher education and to a better future for new generations of Texans. Those who make gifts of $1,000 or more are recognized as 1881 Fellows and donors making contributions up to $999 are recognized as 1881 Associates.
