The Chancellor’s Council is a unique association of dedicated supporters and friends of the UT System. Founded in 1965 by the Board of Regents and Development Board leaders, the Chancellor’s Council recognizes major contributors, encourages continuous public and private support of Texas higher education, and advances the mission and goals of the UT System. More than 11,000 persons are members of this important support group.
Individuals become members of the Council based on their past record of private support of one of the 15 institutions in the System. Membership is open to individuals who have made cumulative contributions of $10,000 or planned gifts of $15,000 to a UT institution or the UT System.
The Chancellor’s Council is a donor recognition society, and membership carries no obligation to make future gifts. Although members are invited and encouraged to make contributions for strategic use by the Chancellor, response is a matter of individual choice.
In addition to association with a collegial group of individuals who support The University of Texas, some of the benefits and activities associated with membership include:
- The Chancellor's Council Annual Meeting and Symposium, held on the UT Austin campus, includes the Chancellor’s “State of the System” remarks, special presentations focusing on innovative programs by UT System institutions and a reception following the meeting;
- Higher education updates hosted by the Chancellor and members of the Board of Regents at briefing sessions held in communities across the state;
- Information shared via publications, periodic mailings, and other electronic and personal communications;
- Invitations to provide advice and counsel to the Chancellor on educational plans and objectives of the System.
The Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee is the core leadership group that provides direct support and counsel to the Chancellor. The group convenes several times annually and engages in dialogue with the Chancellor regarding special initiatives and issues of importance to higher education and healthcare in Texas.
