Gifts in the form of appreciated securities provide many benefits. Donors may receive an income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the securities, as well as reducing or eliminating capital gains taxes. Gifts of stocks and mutual funds are coordinated by the UT System Office of Development and Gift Planning Services and proceeds from the sale of these assets will be directed to any program you wish. Please contact Charlotte Hambrick at (512) 499-4300 for additional information on making a gift of securities.
Gifts made to memorialize or honor individuals require no minimum dollar amount. An acknowledgement letter will be provided.
An outright gift of real estate or promissory note can provide the donor with a charitable income tax deduction for the fair market value of the gifted property. Visit the Real Estate Office homepage.
Many corporations will match gifts made by their employees and associates. Please check with your human resource office to determine if your employer sponsors such a program. If a matching gift program exists, it is generally the donor’s responsibility to obtain the form or instructions from the human resource office to file for matching gift funds.
Valuable collections such as works of art, rare books, paintings or antiques may be gifted and also result in tax benefits.
