The University of Texas System Information Technology Management Council (I.T.M.C.) has existed primarily to exchange information about technology issues. A major focus has been discussing and understanding the rules of various state agencies that regulate technology purchases. Thus, the I.T.M.C. began as a forum for discussion of state agency rules but has now evolved into cooperative projects and activities.
Today, the I.T.M.C. is a forum for the discussion of the entire range of the technology issues affecting all component institutions. Efforts range from understanding the latest Department of Information Resources (D.I.R.) rules and developing cooperative responses to grappling with the issue of how technology can be used for the benefit of individual components and the System as a whole.
