Dear Counselors & Teachers:
The state of Texas has created a program for your students interested in becoming a Doctor and we need your help toget the word out. The Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP) provides services to support and encourage highly qualified, economically disadvantaged students pursuing a medical education. Students selected for JAMP will receive undergraduate scholarships, stipends for summer internships and special mentoring to prepare them for medical school. JAMP also provides for the admission of those students who meet the academic and non-academic requirements to one of Texas's medical schools.
The most important thing you can do at this time is to inform your students that they must do the following to be eligible to apply:
Apply for admission to one of the participating schools.
Take the SAT or ACT and earn a score not less than the mean for the state of Texas and provide the scores to the participating school.
Complete and submit the FASFA and be eligible to receive a Pell Grant their freshman year of college.
As a freshman in college the student must take 27 hours of undergraduate during the freshman year with a
3.25 GPA or higher.
JAMP defines "freshman year" as the first fall and spring semesters after graduation from high school.
We also need a BIG FAVOR from you to help us reach the largest number of students as quickly as possible. Please send us the names and mailing addresses of any of your graduating seniors that you believe could be a candidate for JAMP. The names and addresses you provide will be protect and used only to inform the student about JAMP. You may email the addresses to jamp@utsystem.edu or mail them to:
