    Letter from the Chair

The Joint Admission Medical Program (JAMP) was created by the Texas Legislature to provide economically disadvantaged students who are interested in becoming physicians with the guidance and support they need to succeed. In addition, scholarships are available to each student from the time they are accepted into JAMP until they graduate from medical school, providing they maintain the necessary academic and personal requirements.

The first JAMP class began medical school in the fall of 2006. We now have representatives from this program in three of the four years of medical school.

I encourage you to investigate this wonderful program. The qualifications for acceptance, application and deadlines and a wealth of additional information, visit the Student Section for all the details. If you are interested in pursuing medicine as a profession, JAMP provides a great opportunity to visit the campuses of Texas medical schools, be guaranteed a position in one and, with hard work, have an opportunity to give back to communities in the great state of Texas. Thanks for your interest in JAMP. The next step is to see if you meet the requirements. We invite all who qualify to apply.

    Bernell K Dalley, Ph.D.
    Chair, JAMP Council
