R.D. Burck is Named Chancellor of the U.T. System
AUSTIN - R. D. Burck, who has served as interim chancellor of the University of Texas System since June, was appointed to the chancellor's position on a permanent basis on Wednesday (December 6) by the Board of Regents.
The unanimous decision by the regents, who met by telephone conference call, brings to a close the search for a chancellor that began in June 1999, when Burck's predecessor, William H. Cunningham, announced plans to retire from the position.
The decision on Wednesday had been expected since November 15, when the regents named Burck the sole finalist for the position.
"The U.T. System is indeed fortunate to have Dan Burck in this vital leadership role," said Donald L. Evans, chairman of the Board of Regents. "He is uniquely qualified to lead the system forward in all aspects of its mission - teaching, research, patient care, and public service."
Burck said: "This appointment by the Board of Regents is a great honor. I look forward to continuing to work with the board, the system leadership team, and the 15 system institutions on behalf of the people of Texas."
Burck previously served as executive vice chancellor for business affairs. He joined the U.T. System in 1988 after a private-sector business career that included leadership of Getty Oil Co. He earned a bachelor of business administration degree from U.T. Austin and attended the South Texas School of Law in Houston. |
