Appointment of Vice Chancellor for Administration is Announced

AUSTIN - Tonya Moten Brown, an administrator at the University of Minnesota since 1997, has been appointed to the newly created position of vice chancellor for administration at the University of Texas System.

The appointment was made by Chancellor R. D. Burck in consultation with Mark G. Yudof, who will become chancellor on August 1.

Brown will be the primary contact from the chancellor's office for administrative matters related to the U.T. System's operations and planning. She will represent the chancellor's office on governmental committees, collaborate with system officials to ensure organizational effectiveness, direct the analysis and evaluation of system activities for the chancellor's office, and carry out other administrative functions for the chancellor.

She will join the U.T. System administration on August 19.

Brown has worked with Yudof since 1993, when he was dean of the School of Law at U.T. Austin. She was assistant dean for admissions at the law school from 1993 to 1997.

She went with Yudof to the University of Minnesota when he became president of that institution in 1997. She served as chief of staff in the office of the president from 1997 to 2000 and as vice president and chief of staff from 2000 to the present.

Brown earned a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1983 and a doctorate of law from U.T. Austin in 1987.

She worked as an attorney in commercial litigation for the Houston law firm of Wickliff & Hall from 1991 to 1993 and the Houston firm of Butler & Binion from 1987 to 1991.
