Executive Vice Chancellor for Business
Affairs Resigns
AUSTIN - Kerry Kennedy, executive vice chancellor for business
affairs in the University of Texas System, announced his resignation
to assume the position of vice president for financial affairs and
treasurer at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa effective Sept.
15.
"Kerry has served the U.T. System well for many years and has
provided outstanding leadership for the business units here at System
Administration and at all of our component institutions," said
Chancellor Mark G. Yudof. "We are grateful for his vision and
dedication as executive vice chancellor, and we wish him every success
in his new position."
Kennedy joined the U.T. System in 1990. As controller, he had been
responsible for System-wide budgeting and financial reporting, investment
accounting, and a variety of other business functions. He was promoted
several times and was named as the executive vice chancellor in
2000. As the System's chief business officer, Kennedy is responsible
for overseeing financial operations of the nine academic and six
health institutions and System Administration.
Before joining the U.T. System, he was executive vice president
and chief financial officer of Bank One, Austin. He earned a bachelor
of business administration degree in accounting from U.T. Austin,
and he is a certified public accountant.
Yudof announced that the search for a vice chancellor for business
affairs will begin soon.
The vice chancellor for business affairs directs the preparation
of short-term and long-range plans and budgets based upon U.T. System
strategic goals and growth objectives; directs the organization
and administration of procedures and systems necessary to maintain
proper financial records to provide adequate accounting controls
and services; and directs and coordinates the establishment of the
U.T. System total annual operating budget.
Departments at the System Administration level that report to the
vice chancellor include the Office of Finance, Office of the Controller,
Office of Facilities Planning and Construction, West Texas Operations,
University Lands, Real Estate, and Employee Group Insurance.
The U.T. System has 15 campuses, including nine academic and six
health institutions, an enrollment exceeding 165,000 students, more
than 80,000 employees and an annual operating budget of $7.8 billion.
