Statement by Chancellor Mark G. Yudof

Comment on George Wright by U.T. System Chancellor Mark G. Yudof

Background Information: On June 6, 2003, Chancellor Howard Graves of the Texas A&M System announced that Dr. George C. Wright, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Texas at Arlington, was the sole finalist for the position of president of Prairie View A&M.

Comment by Chancellor Yudof: George Wright is a distinguished scholar and administrator who has made an outstanding contribution to U.T. Arlington, U.T. Austin, and the U.T. System. I am saddened about his departure from the U.T. System, but I am thrilled for him and for Prairie View. He will be a tremendous asset for that university and will provide the kind of energetic and visionary leadership that all higher education institutions need.
