UT System Statement

UT System Will Submit Expression of Interest to DOE

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announcement on Monday (June 28) calling for an expression of interest is the initial step in a formal "request for proposal" process to compete the management and operating contract for Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in New Mexico.

The University of Texas System intends to submit an expression of interest to the DOE by its published deadline and continues to explore the possibility of bidding for the management and operating contract, as authorized by the UT System Board of Regents on February 4, 2004.

A decision on whether to bid will be made by the Board of Regents after the DOE issues the "request for proposal" on the management and operating contract, expected later this year.
