Statement by Chancellor Mark G. Yudof: Governor's Accountability Directive

The University of Texas System welcomes Governor Rick Perry's directive to all Texas higher education systems to develop accountability programs. We agree totally with this directive, and we will enthusiastically work to implement it.

The U. T. System has been working on a new and comprehensive accountability system, and the U. T. System Board of Regents will consider accountability and performance benchmarks at its March 11 meeting.

We look forward to working on accountability issues with Governor Perry, Lt. Governor David Dewhurst, Speaker Tom Craddick, Senator Florence Shapiro, chair of the Senate Education Committee, and Representative Geanie Morrison, chair of the House Higher Education Committee.
