Brackenridge Tract Task Force to Meet on April 9

AUSTIN – The University of Texas System Brackenridge Tract Task Force will hold a meeting at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 9. The meeting will be in the Board Room on the 9th floor of Ashbel Smith Hall, 201 W. 7th Street.

The meeting will feature a presentation by Dan Garrison, a founding member of the Town Lake Trail Foundation. A question-and-answer session will follow his presentation. The presentation and question-and-answer session will be open to the public and webcast live. Please note that you will need Windows Media Player to view this webcast.

Credentialed media members wishing to attend the meeting should contact the Office of Public Affairs at (512) 499-4363 to arrange for parking.

In July 2006, UT System Board of Regents Chairman James R. Huffines created the task force and charged its members with reviewing data, determining land-use impacts and formulating recommendations on how to proceed with use of the tract. Nearly 500 acres of land west of downtown Austin along the Colorado River were donated in 1910 by George W. Brackenridge of San Antonio, a former UT System regent, for the benefit of The University of Texas at Austin.

The tract is approximately 350 acres and consists of developed and undeveloped land that includes a municipal golf course, UT Austin student housing, a campus biological field laboratory, a neighborhood youth facility and various commercial buildings and enterprises operating under lease agreements with the university.
