Since its launch in May 1998, the UT TeleCampus has achieved national prominence in distance education. Over the years, it has accumulated a number of significant awards from different educational organizations, including the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the United States Distance Learning Association. At the same time, the UT TeleCampus has attained maturity as a UT System program, delivering high-quality online degree programs, academic courses and professional development courses that are developed and taught by faculty from the 15 institutions in the UT System.
Given its maturity and success, the UT TeleCampus now is embarking on to a new challenge. The Office of Academic Affairs is creating a new business model that expands the governance of the UT TeleCampus, improves System-wide decision making, and eliminates its financial dependence on the Available University Fund. A shared services model is being created to include an executive committee from among the stakeholders within the UT System. The executive committee, with input from UT TeleCampus leaders, will restructure the financial plan and identify new revenue-generating opportunities. With more formal involvement in UT TeleCampus operations, the campuses will be instrumental in helping to streamline the UT TeleCampus’ activities towards the goals of a centralized, coordinated and cost-effective program.
