Model Policy for Addressing Allegations of Misconduct in Science
The implementation of common rules and regulations has long been advocated to ease the regulatory burden on universities and provide a consistent approach to research misconduct.
In response, the U.S. Office of Research Integrity (ORI) provides guidance by promulgating its own Policies on Research Misconduct and by approving institutional models for use throughout a university system like ours. Recently, however, the regulations that form the basis for such policies underwent substantial revision. As a result, all our approved policies are now out of date. The ORI has posted a new Model Procedure entitled, Sample Policy and Procedures for Responding to Allegations of Research Misconduct, and during this transitional period University of Texas institutions have two options available to assist in addressing alleged allegations of misconduct in science:
