SUMMARY
Purpose/Scope: Assists
in developing Texas Reading First Initiative (TRFI) program guidelines, procedures,
policies and rules. Assists
with product development and training.
DUTIES
Essential
Functions:
·
Assists
project directors, Texas Education Agency (TEA) and TRFI partners in developing
program guidelines, procedures, policies and rules to implement Texas Reading
First Initiative project to improve student achievement in reading for grades
K-3.
·
Assists
with the development of products and training.
Disseminates information to school districts, charter schools and
regional education service centers (ESC) statewide.
·
Reviews
school district and charter school TRFI applications to identify professional
development priorities. Plans and
delivers professional development to school administrators, reading coaches and
educators at funded TRFI sites.
·
Provides
technical assistance to funded local education agencies (LEA) and campuses in
assigned school districts and/or charter schools on research-based
instructional programs, strategies and assessments.
·
Provides
assistance and training to the U.T. System regional technical assistance
specialists (RTAS) and ESC personnel in helping administrators, coaches, and
educators use student data to measure progress and
make instructional and curricular adjustments.
Provides input on RTAS’ performance.

Assists
the database administrator with collection of student achievement information
from participating school districts and charter schools
·
Provides
updates to UT System project directors.
Assists project directors in compiling reports for the Commissioner of
Education, US Department of Education (USDOE), legislative committees,
educational service centers and participating LEAs.
Other
Functions:

Performs
other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION
Received: Work is performed under general supervision from immediate supervisor.
Provided: Manage supervisory employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Master’s
degree with major coursework related to scientific reading instruction or
program administration.
Experience: Five
years experience teaching reading, planning and providing professional
development for school administrators/educators, and/or conducting regional or
statewide technical assistance.
Knowledge, skills and
abilities: Knowledge of state and federal legislation
and regulations in early reading instruction. Thorough knowledge of
scientifically based reading research.
Must be familiar with Microsoft Office.
WORKING
CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office
environment. Uses
personal computer and other standard office equipment. Requires occasional evening
or weekend hours.
