SUMMARY
Purpose/Scope: Provides
field oversight and monitors implementation of the Texas Reading First
Initiative (TRFI) on funded campuses.
Trains school district and charter school personnel and builds capacity
for school district leadership to guide teachers to analyze diagnostic student
achievement, implement the 3-Tier Model of Instruction, teach core reading
program and provide intervention support for students working below level.
DUTIES
Essential
Functions:

Assists
UT System by providing oversight in the field for the effective implementation
of Texas Reading First (TRF) plans to improve reading skills in grades K-3 on
funded campuses in funded local education agencies (LEA).

Monitors
TRF program implementation.
·
Mentors/coaches
local campus reading coaches.
·
Trains
school district and charter school personnel.
·
Teaches
demonstration lessons to model effective reading strategies and how to use
student achievement results to differentiate instruction and modify curriculum
for struggling readers.
·
Models
best practices to ensure that TRF plans are implemented as written and in
accordance with scientifically based reading research and the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Reading First Initiative and TRF grant
specifications.

Communicates
field-based issues and concerns. Serves
as a link in the communication between US Department of Education (USDOE),
Texas Education Agency (TEA), UT System,

SUPERVISION
Received: Work is performed under general supervision from immediate supervisor.
Provided: None.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s
degree. Texas Teaching Certificate or similar certification required
Experience: Three
years experience, to include teaching with Texas adopted reading/language arts
programs, and/or serving as a reading coach in a high needs school..
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Must
possess a deep understanding of the scientific research base for K-3 reading
instruction. Excellent
written and verbal communication skills.
WORKING
CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office
environment. Uses
personal computer and other standard office equipment. Requires occasional evening
or weekend hours. Requires overnight travel.
