Telecommuting Information Page
A telecommuting program and policy have been approved for U. T. System Administration employees who meet certain criteria and who have obtained appropriate approvals. All supervisors must attend mandatory training on telecommuting and employees who are approved to telecommute must also attend training and must enter into a Telecommuting Agreement before telecommuting begins.

Required Qualifications for Telecommuting
For an employee to be eligible to request permission to telecommute, the employee must:
- Be salaried with at least one year of System Administration service (temporary employees are not included)
- Have the ability to work well with minimal supervision
- Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of the operations for which he or she is responsible
- Have a history of reliable and responsible accomplishment of work duties
- Have a demonstrated ability to establish priorities and manage his or her time
Jobs acceptable for telecommuting are those that can be performed at a remote site without diminishing the quality of the work or disrupting the productivity of an office. Examples include:
- Analyzing documents such as financial statements, proposals, data estimates, and budgets
- Performing computer-related functions such as entering or compiling data, developing databases, and programming
- Contacting individuals by e-mail, fax, or telephone when the location of the staff member is not critical
- Performing other communication-related work such as arranging meetings, coordinating studies, consulting with experts, and providing information in response to requests
- Documenting trip reports and test results
- Reading and reviewing plans and specifications, policies, procedures, legal documents, and reports
- Performing research for department planning documents, policies, and procedures
- Verifying reports, records, and accuracy tests
- Writing/editing memos, reports, letters, articles, policies, procedures, and evaluations
Jobs that would not lend themselves to telecommuting are those that require frequent face-to-face contact with the public or internal departmental staff.
