The UT System Administration security system has been installed to provide you with a means of alerting others when you are in need of assistance. The system consists of numerous Police Assist Buttons (for EMERGENCY USE ONLY) outside the buildings, sirens and two direct telephone lines (NON-EMERGENCY USE) connected to the UT Austin Police Department (UTPD).
Police Assist Button ( EMERGENCY USE ONLY)
Police Assist Buttons have been strategically placed on each level in CTJ, ASH and ASH West Garages adjacent to the blue light fixtures. Pushing a Police Assist Button will automatically activate a local siren and simultaneously transmit your location to the UTPD. A police officer will be immediately dispatched to your location. If you must leave the location where you activated a Police Assist Button, remember the responding officer(s) will go directly to the location of the activation.
To activate a siren, you must push one of the Police Assist Buttons located below the blue lights in the garage.
Direct Telephone Instruments
A telephone box is located inside ASH West Garage, 7th Street entrance, on the ground floor next to the pedestrian door. The box contains a transmitter with a button mounted on the front. Pushing the button will automatically transmit your location and dial UTPD. The closest Police Assist Button to the ASH West Garage is located just inside the southeast corner of the ASH Garage.
A similar phone is located on the north side of the security kiosk on Colorado Street at the east end of the alley between ASH and CTJ. If you pick up the receiver, UTPD is automatically dialed. Picking up the instrument does not automatically transmit your location, so you must indicate that you are calling from the kiosk.
These instruments may be used to:
Report a crime
Report suspicious persons
Report fires
Help you locate one of the system complex guards
When using these phones, speak in a normal tone of voice.
If you have questions regarding this equipment or any security-related concern, contact the Office of Director of Police 499-4680.
