Radiation Safety Advisory Group
The Radiation Safety Advisory Group (RSAG) is comprised of representatives of the Institutions and various system offices. Each Institution is represented by the individual with institutional responsibility for radiation safety.
Mission
The RSAG's mission is to provide expert advice and recommendations to the University of Texas System (UTS) Environmental Health and Safety Advisory Committee (EHSAC) in support of the development and implementation of appropriate programs in furtherance of the UTS Environmental Policy Statement and to serve as the mechanism for the free exchange of information and cooperation among Institutions and various System offices with regard to non-ionizing and ionizing radiation safety issues. The RSAG will support and facilitate cooperative efforts related to radiation safety that are of benefit to the Institutions and UT System generally including maintenance of a safe place for teaching, learning and work; regulatory compliance strategies; student and employee training programs; and strive to maintain radiation exposures at levels that are as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA).
Goals
- Emphasize and enhance communication within each Institutions and with various System offices with regard to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation safety issues.
- Anticipate, review, evaluate, and recommend ionizing and non-ionizing radiation safety regulatory compliance strategies.
- Encourage and promote the education and training of staff in ionizing and non-ionizing radiation safety issues.
- Recommend and pursue opportunities to facilitate collaborative efforts regarding ionizing and non-ionizing radiation safety issues that will benefit the Institutions and the System in general.
