UTS157-Automobile Insurance Coverage for Officers and Employees and General Requirements for the Use of Vehicles was developed as a comprehensive guide to University of Texas System employees with regards to the management of the risk, as well as, the operational and legal issues associated with the use of motor vehicles on University business.
This policy outlines the insurance policies covering the authorized use of University-owned and operated vehicles, procedures for updating the inventory of vehicles and related information, requirements for the use of vehicles, requirements for authorization of drivers and procedures for reporting vehicle accidents or occurrences.
The Chief Business Officer at each Institution is charged with implementing the requirements outlined in this policy.
As outlined in UTS157, operators of 12 and 15-passenger vans must have additional training on the safety and handling characteristics of 12 and 15-passenger vans. This training should include behind-the-wheel instruction.
