Department Safety Liaison (DSL)

Department Safety Liaisons (DSLs) and Alternate DSLs aid the Office of Risk Management in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. DSLs are essential for disseminating safety information to their departments.

DSL Responsibilities

  • Attend quarterly meetings to discuss safety issues confronting departments
  • Provide information and direction to their department during evacuation exercises and in the event of an emergency
  • Identify mobility-impaired individuals in their department that may need assistance in the event of an emergency
  • Maintain University of Texas System safety equipment including the department first aid kits(s), flashlights and fire extinguishers
  • Communicate the dates and times of safety training classes to department staff in cooperation with the Environmental, Health and Safety section of the Office of Risk Management

Service Order System (SOS)

The DSL will Utilize the SOS to:

  • Input safety service requests
  • Input facility service requests
  • Retrieve the DSL Emergency Response Plan
  • Complete and track quarterly work area inspection check lists
  • Track fire extinguisher inspections
  • Request ergonomic evaluation
