Campus Strategic Planning

Campus Strategic Plans: Campus Strategic Plans: Each institution in the UT System is expected to develop and implement a campus-specific strategic or long-range plan. These plans align with, but need not duplicate in every detail, the UT System's overall strategic plan.

All campuses engage in a process of planning, implementation, and update their plans on at least a ten-year cycle, as evaluation of these plans is also a critical element in regional accreditation reviews. Each campus has its own ten-year accreditation cycle. For this reason, the UT System made the decision to accept new or updated campus strategic plans on timeline that aligns with the campus's accreditation calendar.

The 15 campuses within the UT System now have new plans in place or are in the process of revising or developing them, and all will be new or current by 2010.

Campus Compacts: In 2003, the UT System put in place an institutional compact process for all 15 UT System institutions. Compacts are shorter-term, focused planning agreements between each president and the Chancellor about key priorities and initiatives over an 18-24 month period, including expected outcomes and measures of progress. The compacts relate to, align with, or may be the springboard for longer-term, strategic planning processes at each institution.

Presidential Work Plans: Each president develops a work plan for the year that describes the areas on which he or she will focus; the priorities align with those outlined in the compact and strategic plan.

Washington Advisory Group Report: A core responsibility of the UT System is to engage in high-quality, innovative research that entails the discovery, dissemination, and application of knowledge. To do this, UT System's universities must become far more competitive research institutions. This report, conducted by a prestigious academic advisory group in 2004, provides recommendations for the institutions to achieve this goal.
