PC Refresh
In order to have System Administration computer networks operate at optimum levels, improve support, and create a secure computing environment a consistent refresh policy for computer hardware linked to the UT network has been established for System Administration.
Overview of Program
- All computers will be purchased centrally through the Office of Technology and Information Services (OTIS).
- Computers will generally be replaced on a three year cycle.
- The AUF refresh account has been centrally funded.
- The non-AUF departments are required to pay for their refresh orders.
- A legitimate business purpose must be established for a computer other than a desktop.
- Unless a legitimate business purpose is established, individuals may only have one computer.
PC Refresh installations are normally outsourced to Dell or their subcontractors. .

Departmental Move Assistance
Moves are handled on a case-by-case basis and coordinated with the relocating department. Because of the variety of issues involved in an office move or rearrangement, both OTIS, Facilities staff and the department must work to establish a timeline of events. We ask that OTIS be notified in advance of moves so that we can properly coordinate and assist. A move request form is available on the OTIS web site.
Wireless Access at System Administration
Wireless access is available in most System Adminsitration conference rooms. OTIS cannot guarantee a wireless connection to the network from everywhere in the complex at this time.
Support of Wireless PDA Devices
Helpdesk staff are being asked to support a multitude of wireless PDA devices. OTIS strongly suggests using either a Blackberry or Windows Moble device.
