Alleged kidnapper dies after shooting self in the head

An Amber Alert for an abducted Houston mother and two young daughters ended hours after it was issued early Saturday with the victims safe and the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Courtney Dickerson, a registered sex offender, shot himself in the head about 9:30 a.m. in the backyard of a house in the 7300 block of Eisenhower, after running from officers, Houston police said.
Dickerson, 22, was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said Houston Police Department spokeswoman Jodi Silva.
The suspect had been dating the mother, but she broke off the relationship earlier in the week, Silva said.
On Thursday morning, when the mother left her house for her job in the Texas Medical Center, Dickerson was waiting in the back of her Chevy Tracker, armed with a pocketknife, Silva said.
He drove the young woman to an apartment on Calhoun, where he sexually assaulted her and then drove her to work and took her vehicle, Silva said.
About 11:30 p.m. Friday, Dickerson kicked in the door of the mother’s home and abducted her, along with her two daughters, ages 2 and 4. The Amber Alert was issued at 4:15 a.m. Saturday.
Houston detectives staked out various spots, including Dickerson’s home in the 5600 block of Northridge, Silva said. When he showed up there Saturday morning in the victim’s missing vehicle, police pursued him until he abandoned the vehicle in the 7300 block of Dunkirk.
He ran between houses to Eisenhower, where he shot himself.
Silva said she didn’t know what happened to the victims during the 10 hours they were with the suspect.
