Subject: Official: Aggravated assault on Guadalupe St.

Around noon today (July 17), UTPD was notified of an assault on the Guadalupe Street sidewalk immediately west of campus. A UT Austin student reported a white male dressed in red pointed a knife at her while screaming in a threatening manner. Officers searching the area stopped and later arrested someone matching the description.  The victim has positively identified the suspect.

UTPD has dealt with this suspect on numerous occasions, but this is the first time he’s brandished a weapon.  Although he has been charged with aggravated assault and faces two to 20 years in jail if convicted, we wanted to make the campus community aware of his actions and provide you with a photograph for future reference.  Please contact UTPD at 512-471-4441 if you see this individual near or on campus in the future.

This notification is provided as a Timely Warning in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act (20 USC § 1092(f)).

Robbery-Weapon Displayed
This warning is provided to inform and to educate the campus community of reported crimes that have happened on or near our campus and also to comply with the Federal requirements of the Clery Act.
Due to the nature of this type of crime, I wanted to make our community aware that a robbery occurred last night (07/15/2014) at approximately 9:48pm at Motel 6 located at 7500 Louis Pasteur Dr. next to the HSC University Plaza
The suspect is described as a black male 5’6” to 5’ 8” tall in his 20s, with long black hair, wearing a black mask, gloves and carrying a black semi-auto handgun. The suspect drove a dark blue 4-door early 90s model sedan (possible Buick Le Sabre) with a spare tire with black rim on passengers side front.
The suspect pulled through the motel parking lot in the vehicle and then drove next door to HSC University Plaza and parked. The male walked to the motel lobby where he confronted the clerk on duty with a handgun and demanded the cash out of the office. The male fled in unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Minutes later at 9:52pm a University employee was taking the trash to the dumpsters at the rear of the building and was confronted by the fleeing suspect, who brandished a handgun.  The suspect got into a car and fled the area.
