The UT System is advancing the UT Research Cyberinfrastructure (UTRC) initiative in order to provide new capabilities that will advance current and future research efforts across all UT institutions. By providing a combination of advanced computational systems, large data storage opportunity, and high bandwidth data access between the institutions, UTRC will enable researchers within all 15 UT System institutions to collaborate with each other and compete at the forefront of science and discovery. UTRC will incorporate integrated operations (central and distributed, connected at high bandwidth) and will work with researchers to develop applications, manage and analyze data, and integrate with the decentralized resources. Through the UTRC Project, we will facilitate, stimulate, and support leadership in computational science research across Texas and attract more funding and the best faculty and graduate students to UT institutions.
UT System is the second largest university system in the United States, and UT System institutions contain a rich and diverse collection of research programs within science, engineering, and biomedicine/health. The UTRC offers an immediate opportunity to extend leadership in existing research programs and to develop new research programs. The UTRC initiative represents an active collaboration with Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC), a national advanced computing center and key player in the NSF XSEDE. TACC operates some of the most powerful computing and visualization systems in the world.
