UTRC current top-priority projects include:
High bandwidth network connectivity
High bandwidth network connectivity between all UT System institutions will enable sharing of data and movement of data to/from computing and data systems. UT SysNet will deploy this high-bandwidth network capability (10 Gbps connection) and work with institutions to best utilize this new opportunity.
Data sharing and services
The UT Data Repository (UTDR) will enable long-term data storage, the hosting of large scientific data collections for collaborations and communities, and analysis capabilities that span multiple collections. UTDR will facilitate data management proposals to NSF and NIH; this is now a requirement in all NSF and NIH proposals. It will be designed by a multi-institution team to ensure that it meets diverse research requirements and can scale up for future needs.
Advanced computing
The UTRC collaboration with Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) leverages advanced computing and visualization resources via the new and comprehensive Lonestar system. As part of the UTRC, UT System researchers have unique access to allocations on Lonestar, a national XSEDE resource and the world's most productive HPC resource that integrates shared memory nodes, GPU nodes, tools for high-throughput computing and remote interactive visualization. TACC support services will enable UT researchers to use UTRC resources effectively as they assist research teams in employing the systems, software, and expertise necessary to foster educational innovation. The staff is dedicated to providing consulting and training required for users to take full advantage of TACC resources, services, and educational programs that are contributing to the development of the next generation of researchers.
